Electra (Stringered EPS)
This is the most common and well loved "alternative" construction that we offer. EPS/Epoxy is what most people are referring to when they talk about an "Epoxy surfboard", but Epoxy is actually the name of the resin used to build this type of board, and EPS is Extruded Polystyrene foam, which is more commonly known as Styrofoam.
We use an ultra lightweight EPS blank with a wood stringer just like our PU/PE boards all have, and then we hand laminate the boards with Epoxy resin and a combination of E and S fiberglass cloth for extra strength and lively flex. The blanks are a little softer than traditional PU foam, but the added resin strength helps create durability and ding resistance.
EPS is a beaded foam with open pockets between the cells, but we use pressure molded blanks with beads that are more tightly fussed. This creates a stronger blank that is less prone to absorbing water if you do ding your board. The Epoxy resin is not only stronger than "normal" resin, but it is also extremely bright white, almost purple-ish when in sunlight, so the boards look amazing.
This construction is great for the person who like their regular PU/PE boards, but is looking for a lighter weight board, either for pure performance reasons or just because a lighter board will give you some extra floatation (paddle power) and a fresh feel to any design.
Warning: while this construction is strong and durable these boards are not indestructible - they will dent, ding, and even break, just like all surfboards.
