The Padillac

In 2016, John John Florence won the Eddie riding his 9'8" & Billy Kemper rode his to 4 contest wins at Jaws along with what is considered to be the greatest Jaws tube ride ever, but we to his credit Mark Healey named this big wave shape and was instrumental in developing and testing the design he rode winning the 2014 Billabong XXL Biggest Paddle Award.

In the years following to present day, Nathan & Ivan Florence, JJF, Makua & Koa Rothman, Eli Olson, Billy Kemper, Nic Von Rupp and a bunch of other crazy f@#$ers have put it to the test in the world's biggest waves and they all come back saying it's the best big wave board they have had. Like the name implies, this board is built to paddle fast and easy, with extra thickness and a fuller outline than most standard guns so you can catch and ride bigger waves with confidence and ease. It has a clean, flowing rocker, and a light vee bottom with double concaves to give you speed and sensitivity while still maintaining control in heavy conditions.

It comes as a quad, for both speed and maneuverability, and can handle anything the ocean throws at you. Made in sizes between 6’10” and 10'6”, it is a great board for deeper water waves like Sunset, Cloudbreak, Puerto Escondido, Ocean Beach, or anywhere else that gets BIG and HEAVY.

It is also a great choice for bigger surfers looking for a controlled, easy feel in all types of waves.

VOLUME CALCULATOR

Our volume guide can help you figure out a good estimated volume for you to base your next board off of.

Ability/weight/volume numbers are not exact, but can give you an idea of where to start. This chart is assuming volume for a basic performance board to be ridden in weak to good waves.

  • Generally speaking, you would want to ADD volume for a board designed for smaller, weaker conditions.

  • You would also ADD volume for a step-up/gun board for use in even bigger, more powerful waves.

  • Added weight (thick wetsuit, booties, etc.) should be calculated into your weight.

  • You generally want to balance the added ease of paddling (more volume) with sensitivity and performance (less volume).
