Daily Driver

The Phantom Two

The Phantom Two is an updated version of one of the most popular Daily Drivers in our lineup the Phantom.

A part of the Ghost Family, a step-down based off of the Ghost rocker designed to be your go-to board for slower, weaker waves in everyday conditions. Still highly capable in good waves as well, It has proven to be a great board for surfers of all levels.

Over the years it has developed an almost cult-like following, so we decided it was time to make some updates that improve on the original design without taking away any of its best characteristics- easy speed, fast paddling, stability and maneuverability.

At the end of that process we made one for John John (without telling him what it was) and his feedback after just a few surfs on it was simple: “This board is really fun, I really like it!”  High praise from the best surfer in the world, and we knew we had succeeded in our mission.

The Phantom Two is a squashed down, souped up daily driver with added volume, great for your everyday sessions in less than epic conditions.

It is based off the Ghost rocker but we added nose rocker through the last 12’’ to help make later, steeper take-offs easier.

It has a deep single concave to flatten out the rocker through the center,  creating lift, speed and flow without taking away from the overall performance or feel of the original design.

The width in the tail and nose creates a more parallel, fuller outline which helps keep speed up through slower sections and tight turns.  The new Phantom Two outline features a hip squash that allows for more pivotal surfing and tighter radius turns than the original version.

The rails are soft and forgiving,  medium/full, but gently tapered, giving you more floatation and speed without taking away the sensitivity that we all love.  And, as in many of our designs,  the volume carries through the chest area of the board for solid paddle performance without too much overall thickness. Still best in waist-high to overhead waves of all types, the Phantom Two is a great updated daily driver with a high performance edge.

  Key Changes are:

  • New outline featuring a hip in the tail for added responsiveness through turns
  • Slightly pulled in squash for more hold in tight sections and easy maneuverability overall.
  • Added nose rocker last 12’’ helps in late drops, hollower waves without sacrificing any paddling speed.

Depending on your ability, ride it around your height, a touch wider and about the same thickness as your Ghost or current HPSB, or go bigger and wider for those of you at more of an intermediate level. This is a Daily Driver board that will help raise your performance level without sacrificing the things that currently benefit you.

NOSE & TAIL ROCKER

The Phantom Two is based off the Ghost rocker but we added nose rocker through the last 12’’ to help make later, steeper take-offs easier.

Phantom Two Concave

The Phantom Two has deep single concave under the front foot, running into single/double concave through the fins and then a light vee running off the tail behind the rear fin. All this adds up to easy speed, lots of drive and nimble maneuverability.

VOLUME CALCULATOR

Our volume guide is a great starting point to figure out a best estimated volume for you to base your next board off of. This chart is assuming volume for a basic performance board to be ridden in average waves.

Generally speaking, you should add volume for boards designed for smaller, weaker waves. You should also add volume for a step-up/gun for use in bigger, powerful waves. Added wet weight (wetsuit, booties, etc.) should be calculated into your weight.

Balance the added ease of paddling (more volume) with sensitivity and performance (less volume). Tune to your preference or contact our board experts for questions.
